How to organize your medications when you take several

By the HoraDose team · Updated October 9, 2026 · 2 min read

In short

When you take several medications, an up-to-date list is the best starting point. Then group your doses around the moments of your day, prepare them in advance and plan your refills. Review it all with your pharmacist, especially after a change.

Keep an up-to-date list

Write down each medication: its name, its dose, when to take it and why you take it. Include over-the-counter medications, vitamins and natural products: your pharmacist needs to know about them too.

Bring this list to every appointment, and keep a copy on you.

Review it with your pharmacist

Your pharmacist can check that your medications work well together, and tell you when to take each one. They can also tell you whether some can be taken at the same time. Having all your prescriptions filled at the same pharmacy helps them spot medications that do not go well together.

Group your doses around your day

Getting up, meals and bedtime are easy landmarks. When your pharmacist allows it, place your doses at those moments rather than at scattered times.

Prepare in advance

A weekly pill organizer, with one compartment per moment of the day, saves you from searching through several boxes. Take a few minutes, always on the same day, to fill it. First ask your pharmacist whether all your medications can go in it. If that is difficult, your pharmacy can often prepare blister packs for you.

Plan your refills

Note when each box will be empty, and how long your pharmacy needs to prepare the next one. Place your order a few days ahead. Also note the end date of your prescription: you sometimes need to see the doctor again to get a refill.

Change nothing on your own

Do not stop a medication and do not change a dose without talking to your doctor or your pharmacist, even if you feel better.

How HoraDose can help

In HoraDose, you enter each medication with its schedule. The ones you take together can be linked: their reminders arrive at the same time. Your doses can follow your meals. With Premium, HoraDose can also remind you to refill a medication before you run out.
