Ring even when silenced

Normally a dose reminder stays quiet when your phone is on silent, in Do Not Disturb, or during your HoraDose quiet hours. For a medication set to Ring even when silenced, the reminder rings anyway, at a volume you choose — no louder than it needs to be.

The choice is made for each medication, with two switches:

• Reminders — the medication sends you its dose reminders.
• Ring even when silenced — those reminders also ring on silent and in Do Not Disturb. Only available when reminders are on.

You set them at step 1 of "New treatment" or "Edit the treatment" ("Edit the name, strength or appearance" too), under the quantity. You will also find them in Settings → Notifications & reminders → Dose reminders: the list of your medications, each with its "Ring even when silenced" switch. Both places always show the same value.

The setting applies to every dose of that medication. There is no setting for a single dose, a single schedule, or the whole app. On Home, a dose's menu shows "Rings when silenced" when it does.

1. A screen explains what this setting does. Tick both boxes ("I have read and understood this information" and "I agree this reminder will ring even when silenced"), then tap Turn on. Cancel leaves the medication as it was.
2. On iPhone, Apple may ask you to allow critical alerts: that is what lets the reminder through silent mode.
3. HoraDose then offers to play a test reminder, now or later.

• iPhone — on silent, the phone's volume doesn't apply, so choose it in Settings → Notifications & reminders → Dose reminders → Volume when silenced: Soft, Medium (the starting setting) or Loud.
• Android — these reminders follow your phone's alarm volume.

1. Settings → Notifications & reminders → Dose reminders.
2. Tap Play a test reminder. A 10-second countdown starts.
3. Lock the phone (or leave HoraDose): a reminder received while the app is open does not ring.
4. When it rings, tap it within a minute to confirm you received it.

If it is not confirmed, a banner tells you so in settings. Then see the section below.

Some manufacturers add their own battery savers, which can prevent HoraDose from ringing.

Samsung (One UI)

1. Open Settings → Battery and device care → Battery.
2. Tap Background usage limits → Never sleeping apps.
3. Add HoraDose to the list.

Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO (MIUI / HyperOS)

1. Open Settings → Apps → Manage apps → HoraDose.
2. Turn on Autostart.
3. Under Battery saver, choose No restrictions.

Huawei (EMUI / HarmonyOS), OnePlus (OxygenOS), and others

Look for Autostart, Protected apps, or Battery optimization in your phone's settings, and allow HoraDose to run in the background without restrictions.

A reminder that rings when silenced can be heard by people around you. To keep the medication name off the lock screen, turn on Hide medication name on lock screen in Settings → Notifications & reminders → Dose reminders.

Settings show how many of your medications ring when silenced. From 4 medications, a message reminds you that if too many reminders ring when silenced, they become easy to ignore.

Turn off the medication's Ring even when silenced switch, in Settings → Notifications & reminders → Dose reminders. Its reminders become ordinary reminders again.
