Cloud backup

Encrypted backup to your personal iCloud Drive or Google Drive

Protect your information

From the very start, HoraDose offers to protect your information on a dedicated screen: "If you change or lose your phone, you can get your medications and history back." Tap "Yes, protect my data" to turn on backup, or "Later" to continue without it — the app will gently remind you later on the Home screen.

On iPhone, when your device is connected to iCloud, turning it on does not require you to re-type your 24-word sheet. Keep it safe anyway: on a new phone, HoraDose will ask for it to restore your data, unless your old phone is still there to link the two with the code to scan. The app offers to print your recovery sheet: do it and store it somewhere safe. On Android, or if the secure connection is not available, the 24-word sheet is also asked for when you turn it on (see below).

The backup screen always shows a clear status: "Not protected yet", "Recovery sheet to print" (backup on but the sheet not yet confirmed) or "Backup on". HoraDose never promises a "guaranteed" recovery — it honestly tells you where you stand.

What is backup for?

Backup automatically saves an encrypted copy of your data (medications, schedules, moods, journal) to your own iCloud Drive (iPhone) or Google Drive (Android). If you lose or replace your phone, you can recover everything on the new device.

Your data stays private: only you can restore it, using your 24-word recovery phrase. When the app is in French, the words are shown in French. No one else — not even HoraDose — can read your backup.

Turn on backup

  1. Open Settings → Google Drive backup (Android) or iCloud backup (iPhone).
  2. Turn on the « Enable backup » switch.
  3. HoraDose shows your 24 recovery words, laid out in two columns in large type. Print them with the « Print » button or send them to another app with « Share » — or copy them by hand. The exported document contains only the words and a neutral title, never the app name.
  4. Store the sheet somewhere safe, then tick « I have printed or written down my sheet and stored it somewhere safe » and tap Continue.
  5. HoraDose asks you to re-type 2 randomly chosen words (« Word #X ») to confirm your sheet is written down. Use your sheet to help you. Once both words are correct, the backup starts.

If a word does not match, a message invites you to check your sheet and the requested number, then try again. You can also tap « Review my words » to show the list again, or choose « Later » to close without enabling.

iPhone — if a message says iCloud is turned off. Backups use iCloud. If your phone is not signed in to iCloud, or iCloud Drive is turned off, HoraDose tells you and the backup cannot be turned on. Your data is still saved on your phone — nothing is lost. To turn on backups: open the iPhone Settings, tap your name at the top, then iCloud, and turn on iCloud Drive. Then come back to HoraDose.

⚠️ The 24-word sheet cannot be replaced

These 24 words are used to recover your data. If you lose them and no longer have your phone, your backup can never be recovered — not even by us. Store the sheet somewhere safe, do not take a photo of it, and do not send it by email or message.

When does the backup happen?

There are two copies, and the backup screen shows you both:

  • On this phone — a copy is saved again every time your data changes, as soon as you leave the app. It uses no mobile data and protects your very last minutes.
  • Online copy — it goes to your iCloud Drive or Google Drive several times a day. That is the one that saves you if you lose your phone.

So it is normal for the online copy to show an older time than the one on your phone — your data is not lost. You can also back up at any time with the "Back up now" button.

HoraDose keeps your last 4 online backups for this device, spaced so you can go back several days if you need to. Backups from your other devices are never deleted.

You choose which network to use: "Back up on any network" (recommended, the default) protects your data as soon as it changes, even without WiFi; "Back up on Wi-Fi only" saves your mobile data (the backup then waits for Wi-Fi). When some changes aren't backed up yet, a calm line tells you. If your data suddenly looks far smaller than usual, HoraDose pauses automatic backup as a precaution and offers "Back up anyway" if that's intended.

Restore on a new device

  1. Install HoraDose on the new phone and connect it to the same iCloud / Google Drive.
  2. Open Settings → Google Drive backup (or iCloud backup) — or, on the very first screen of a new phone, "Restore my data". Your available backups appear in the list, each labelled with the device name and your first name (for example "Jean-Pierre's iPad") plus the date and time — so you can tell at a glance which one to restore. On your everyday phone, the very first row is the "On this phone" copy, marked "most recent" when it is: that is usually the one to pick, since it holds your last few minutes.
  3. Tap « Restore » next to the backup you want, then confirm. HoraDose reminds you that you can undo it right after if needed. HoraDose then asks for your 24-word sheet.
  4. HoraDose replaces this device's data with the backup.

Once the restore is complete, automatic backups are turned back on on this device, and a message confirms it. If it wasn't the right backup, tap "Undo the last restore" — HoraDose returns to how it was before (the safe choice "Keep the restore" is always offered).

Delete a backup

In the « Available backups » list, tap « Delete » next to a backup to permanently remove it from your cloud. This does not affect the data on your phone.

No iCloud or Google Drive? The HoraDose backup

If your phone is not connected to iCloud (or Google Drive), a "HoraDose backup" card appears on the backup screen (Premium plan). It plays the same role: your data is encrypted on your phone before it is sent — nobody, not even HoraDose, can read it.

Before turning it on, HoraDose asks you to retype 2 of your 24 words: here, your 24 words are the only way to find your data again on a new phone. Keep your sheet somewhere safe.

On a new phone: tap "Restore with my 24 words" then "Enter my 24 words" — your 24 words are enough to get everything back. And even without any backup, if a loved one was supporting you, your 24 words restore your links with them (the "Your loved ones are back" screen then guides you to set up your medications again from your bottles or your pharmacy list).

Add a device without retyping the words: on the new device, tap "Join my devices" then "Show the code to scan"; scan that code with your old device (or type the short code it shows). The code contains no health data. Your old device then shows a six-digit code: type it on the new device to finish. That step is what makes sure your data joins your device, and not one belonging to someone who happened to see the code on screen. You can see and remove your devices in Settings → Sync my devices (5 devices at most; removing a device is not a remote wipe: its local data stays on it until you erase it on the device itself).

If iCloud (or Google Drive) becomes available again, HoraDose offers to move your backup there — never automatically.

Choose where your copies go (Premium)

On the backup screen, the "Change location" button opens "Where do your copies go?": the list of possible destinations, always starting with iCloud or Google Drive (the default, free). If you have the Premium plan, two more choices may appear:

  • HoraDose cloud — your copies go to HoraDose's servers, encrypted: no one can read them. Your last 3 copies are kept.
  • Dropbox — your copies go to your own Dropbox account, encrypted, in a folder reserved for HoraDose ("Apps › HoraDose") that the app can only access.

Only one destination is active at a time. When you tap a new destination, if you have never checked your 24 words, HoraDose first offers it ("Before you continue"): tap "Check my 24 words" to type two of them at random, or "Change location anyway" — you can change the location without your 24 words. Keep them anyway: you will need them to get your copies back on a new phone, and a reminder stays on the home screen until you confirm you wrote them down. For Dropbox, you are then taken to that company's own sign-in page; HoraDose never sees your password.

The switch happens without any gap: your older copies keep going to the previous destination until the first copy in the new one has succeeded. A message confirms it ("Your copies now go to…"), and your existing copies in the old destination stay available.

If a Dropbox connection expires, or a copy stops working, an orange banner appears on the Home screen and on the backup screen, with a named button such as "Reconnect Dropbox" and the date of your last successful copy written out in full.

One-off copy (free, for everyone)

Under "Other options" on the backup screen, "One-off copy" creates an encrypted file of your data that you store wherever you like: in Files, on a USB drive, or attached to an email. It is free, for every user, even without a Premium plan.

HoraDose says it plainly: "This copy does not update itself" — it adds to your automatic backup, it does not replace it. On this same phone it opens without retyping anything; to open it on a new phone, you will need your 24 words; HoraDose offers to check them before creating the copy, but you can continue without if you prefer.

Restore from a file (free, for everyone)

Also under "Other options" (and right on the first screen of a brand-new phone), "Restore from a file" lets you pick a file created with "One-off copy", or a copy you had saved to your Dropbox — coming from Files, an email, or a USB drive. HoraDose shows the creation date of the copy it found before asking you to confirm; as with any restore, you can undo it right after if it wasn't the right one.

If the chosen file is not a HoraDose backup, or is damaged, a clear message tells you and invites you to try another file.

I lost my phone — how do I get everything back?

Install HoraDose on the new phone. On the very first screen, tap "Restore my data". On a new phone, HoraDose asks for your 24 words: keep your recovery sheet at hand. What comes next depends on where your copies were going.

My copies went to iCloud (from an iPhone to an iPhone)

  1. On the new iPhone, sign in with the same Apple ID and turn on iCloud Drive (iPhone Settings → your name → iCloud).
  2. In HoraDose, tap "Restore my data": your backups appear in the list.
  3. Tap "Restore" next to the most recent one, then confirm.
  4. Enter your 24 words, then tap "Validate".

My copies went to Google Drive (from an Android to an Android)

  1. In HoraDose, tap "Restore my data".
  2. HoraDose asks you to sign in to Google: choose the same Google account as on the old phone. Your backups appear in the list.
  3. Tap "Restore" next to the most recent one, then confirm.
  4. Enter your 24 words, then tap "Validate".

My copies went to the HoraDose cloud

  1. In HoraDose, tap "Restore my data", then "Restore with my 24 words" and "Enter my 24 words".
  2. Enter your 24 words, then tap "Validate". Your most recent copy comes back.

Here, your 24 words are the only way to get everything back: your copies are encrypted, and HoraDose cannot recover your words for you. You do not need Premium to get your data back; Premium is only needed to keep making copies in the HoraDose cloud. If another device (a tablet, for example) still uses HoraDose, you can also tap "Join my devices", then "Show the code to scan", and scan that code with that device — without typing your words.

My copies went to Dropbox

  1. On the new phone, install the Dropbox app and sign in to your account: this is what lets you see your Dropbox when you choose the file.
  2. In HoraDose, tap "Restore my data", then, further down, "Restore from a file" and "Choose a file".
  3. In your Dropbox, open the Apps › HoraDose folder and choose the most recent copy.
  4. Enter your 24 words, then tap "Validate".
  5. HoraDose shows "Copy found" with its date: tap "Restore".

I had made a one-off copy

  1. In HoraDose, tap "Restore my data", then "Restore from a file" and "Choose a file".
  2. Choose the file where you kept it (Files, email, USB key): its name starts with "HoraDose-Copie".
  3. Enter your 24 words, then tap "Validate".
  4. HoraDose shows "Copy found" with its date: tap "Restore".

I am changing brands (iPhone to Android, or the other way)

An iCloud backup cannot be seen from an Android, nor a Google Drive backup from an iPhone. To change brands, your copies must be in the HoraDose cloud or in Dropbox, or you need a recent one-off copy. Then follow the steps above, with your 24 words.

Erasing your data and the Premium destinations

When you ask to "Delete all my data", HoraDose also erases your copies on the HoraDose cloud and Dropbox if one of those destinations was active. Files created with "One-off copy" stay out of the app's reach: they are not erased automatically, since they may be anywhere (Files, email, USB drive) — a reminder tells you so when you confirm the erasure.
