Sync my devices
See the same, up-to-date information on all your devices
Backup or Sync?
Backup keeps a safety copy of your data, in case you lose or change your phone. Sync is different: it makes sure your devices show the same, up-to-date information — for example your iPhone and your iPad. What you note on one appears on the other.
Like backup, everything stays encrypted in your own iCloud (iPhone) or Google Drive (Android). No one else — not even HoraDose — can read your information.
Where it all happens
One place: Settings → Sync my devices. That line is always there, on every device, even one without a subscription. Inside, in order: show your code, the sync switch, add a device, then your devices.
Linking two devices
- On the device you want to add: Settings → Sync my devices → « Show the code to scan ». This works at any time, with no subscription and whatever the switch says.
- On the device where you bought the subscription: Settings → Sync my devices → « Add a device », then point it at the code shown on the other one (or type the short code).
- Confirm « Add this device ». That's it: the new device receives your data and starts syncing on its own — nothing to turn on there.
If the device to link already holds your medications
The app first offers "Back up first". That is on purpose: when it is linked, its medications will be replaced by those of the other device. Once the backup is done, the button becomes "Replace and link".
What each device shows
- On the device holding the subscription: the list of your devices (“Mary's iPhone”, “Mary's iPad”…). Tapping one offers to remove it.
- On a linked device: a single line, « Paired with … », naming the device it belongs to.
What each line in the list means
Every line shows its name and where it stands:
- “✓ Up to date” — it has received everything.
- “Updating · 64%” — it is catching up on what happened while it was closed. Nothing to do: let it finish.
- “Not seen for 3 days” — you simply have not opened it since. This is not an error: it will catch up by itself next time you open it.
Adding a device: what you will see
On the new device a code appears (as an image and in large characters); scan it with your usual device. The new device then shows “Receiving your data…” with a progress bar — keep the app open until it finishes — then “✓ Device linked”.
If the new device already held medications or notes, nothing is lost: its data and your other device's data are brought together.
Nothing to do day to day
What you enter on one device appears on the other by itself, within seconds — a confirmed dose, a mood, a journal note, an appointment, a new medication. There is no button to press, and nothing shows on screen while it happens.
Removing a device from the list
From your usual device, tap the line of the device to remove. HoraDose tells you what will happen: it will no longer receive your data, and what it already holds will be erased as soon as it reconnects. The “Cancel” button sits at the bottom, under your thumb.
A removed device never comes back on its own: to link it again you have to go through a code, just like the first time.
Removing THIS device from syncing
On the linked device, turn the switch off. HoraDose tells you plainly: the medications and history will be erased from THIS device — they stay untouched on your other devices. If the device was linked moments ago and has not finished its first sync, HoraDose erases nothing and simply stops syncing.
On a second device
On a second device signed in to the same iCloud or Google account, HoraDose asks: « Is this you? » showing the first name on the record it found. Read the first name shown carefully. The confirm button repeats your first name (“Yes, I am {First name}”) to prevent a mistake. If the shown name is not yours, HoraDose clearly warns you that continuing would mix both people's medications into one record — choose “No, keep separate”. When in doubt, choose “No”.
- If it's you, choose « Yes, it's me »: your two devices will share the same records.
- If you share this account with someone else who also uses HoraDose — for example your spouse — choose « No, someone else », so that your medications and theirs do not get mixed up.
If you have neither iCloud nor Google Drive
HoraDose then offers its own syncing (« Sync my devices (HoraDose) »). It works the same way, with two differences: there is no account — your devices are linked by your 24 words — and it is the only way to link an iPhone and an Android device together.
When does sync happen?
It happens automatically when you open the app, and after a change made on another device — usually within a few minutes. There is nothing to configure. A dose you confirm goes out right away to your other devices, so they stop offering it to you.
What you may see when you open the app
- « Updating… » — your device is getting what was done elsewhere. During that short moment your medications are not shown: this is deliberate, so you are never offered a dose you already took on another device. If the wait drags on, a « Show my medications anyway » link appears — you are never stuck.
- « Last updated … ago » — a quiet banner when your device has not been able to update for a while (no Internet, for example). It informs you; it prevents nothing.
- « Dose confirmed twice » — if the same dose was confirmed on two devices, your journal keeps only one, and this message tells you so, naming the medication and its time. If you actually took this medication twice, talk to your pharmacist or your healthcare professional.
« Your change was not kept »
This notice appears when the same medication was changed at the same time on two of your devices. Only one of the two changes can stay in your notebook.
The notice reads: « … was changed at the same time on another of your devices. Your change was not kept: ». It shows the name of the medication, then, one line each, every change that was not kept with the value you had entered (for example « Strength: 100 mg »). A value left empty is written « (empty) ».
What to do:
- Touch « Check treatment ». The medication sheet opens.
- Look at the sheet.
- If your change is not there, make it again.
You can also touch « Close » to close the notice. If another medication is involved, its notice appears next.
